Book 10: Reunion

I can’t believe we are on book 10 already. How did that happen? I hope your fall has been off to a great start and you are enjoying the changing leave like I am! This month’s book was titled Reunion by Karen Kingsbury (check out part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 if you missed them) and it is one of those books that really hit home for me. In these reviews, I share a bit about each of these books, my thoughts, how many stars I’d give it (actually it is how many Jericho’s as I’m using his cute face in place of stars. ;) ), and what other books I've read that month. Personally, I’d recommend reading the first four books in this series before diving in to this one, but it is still good as a standalone read.

Short Synopsis: This story is all about circumstances that shake our faith. Reunion is the last book in a five book series. This was on my list to read as I have loved the previous four books and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Each book follows a different family member and their life circumstances. Elizabeth and John Baxter are the focus of this final story and they are faced with one of the most difficult challenges of all; accepting the fact that you’re dying and that it might not be God’s will to heal you. Along with their unfortunate news, they also have a secret they have been keeping from their entire family since before they were married. Reunion is a book that brings the whole family together during difficult circumstances to both cry out to God for help but also to rejoice in what He has already given them.

My Thoughts:

I really love reading Christian fiction because although the stories that are portrayed may be made up, the Biblical themes that are presented are 100% possible. What happens to the characters and how it affects their faith are very relatable to what happens in the real world. These stories show how real people experience the joys and tragedies of life all while trusting in the Lord.

God had been faithful time and time and time again. That was the type of God the Baxters served. No, they didn’t always get the answers they wanted. But they always got the right answers, even now with her cancer.

This book also hit home for me as my uncle had been battling cancer for many years. He passed away this last August, despite everyone around him praying for a miraculous healing. Him being healed wasn’t in God’s will, and that is okay. He spent all of his cancer years rejoicing in the Lord and letting Him be his joy and his strength. I find great comfort in that he was a believer in Jesus and will get to spend eternal life in heaven praising our Great Father.

Even though God didn’t answer John and Elizabeth’s prayer in that moment (in regards to getting all the cancer and the chemo helping), they still believed that He would answer their prayer for a miracle; and He did, just in a completely different way!. I really don’t have too much to say about this book other than I loved it. The story kept me intrigued and wanting more. It is an encouraging and uplifting story that will challenge you to seek God even when life doesn’t go how we think it should.
